As the end of the year approaches, and our attention turns towards 2024, we need to get a few things straight. The truth may sometimes hurt, but we need to objectively review our year to take away the lessons from it.

If you had a cracker year that was completely in line with or exceeded your growth plans – CONGRATULATIONS!!

For most of us though, 2023 didn’t go exactly as planned. And that’s ok, too – but we need to learn from our mistakes if we want to grow and improve.

Perhaps you were taken on a new path – a pivot – or maybe you were just caught out having to take care of spotfires. Either way, let’s reflect on the wins AND the obstacles of 2023.

Here is an (inexhaustive) list of questions:

  1. What worked well, that I am grateful for?
  2. Where did I fail? What did I learn?
  3. What are 3 things that I would most like to add to my life?
  4. What are 3 things I would most like to remove from my life?
  5. How can I 10x ____? (revenue, audience, happiness, time with family, etc)
  6. If I had to charge twice as much (and couldn’t do any paid advertising), what could I do?
  7. What if I could only subtract to solve ____ problem?
  8. What’s the ONE Thing I/we could do that would move the needle the most in (revenue, morale, fitness, relationships, etc)
  9. If this year were a book, what would I call it? What would the 12 chapters be called?
  10. Looking back overall, how do I rate my happiness on a scale of 1-10?
  11. What would be the best use of my talents?
  12. How do others perceive my year this year?

You can pick and choose from the questions above, but as Brian Tracy says, “Never leave your planning location, before deciding on your next steps.”

So, what are your next steps as a result of what you’ve just learned?
